We have played two matches recently – against Mitcham (home and away), and against Chipstead (home). Following a competitive 3-3 draw at home to Mitcham we suffered a disappointing 6-0 defeat away. Our home match with Chipstead finished in a 3-3 draw.
We finished a respectable 2nd out of six teams in the annual Royal Wimbledon Putting Competition. Representing LSGC were Jim Boyes, David Paul, Tommy Tighe and Calum Bavin. A notable mention should go to David Paul, who won five out of his six matches. The competition was won by Malden Golf Club.
We also competed in the annual Triangular competition, played between LSGC, Wimbledon Common GC and Royal Wimbledon. The competition was won by Wimbledon Common GC, who hosted this year’s event. And we came 4th out of five local clubs in the Silver Jubilee, held this year at Wimbledon Park GC, with Royal Wimbledon winning the event.

Knockout Matches
The draw for the knockout competitions has now been made, though at the time of writing the draw sheets are not yet up in the clubhouse. They will be soon and we will also email round a list of first round ties, as well as putting details up on the website. Please try to arrange matches as quickly as you can; by getting the early rounds completed promptly we can help ensure that there are no delays later on in the competitions. We are aware that members' contact details are not yet up on the new website but we will be adding them shortly so you can get in touch with your opponents.
Competition Results
The recent Captains Salver – involving an 18 hole medal competition between LSGC captains – was won by John Cottle, with a nett 66. Congratulations to Cliff Grant who shot a nett 65 to win the James Gow. Well done also to Tony Sampson who shot the same score to win the Claret Jug (not to be confused with the one awarded at Royal Birkdale last week!). The Charity Cup, the summer fourball major, was won by Reg Carnegie and Tim Hanson, with a nett 62.
The Ron Panter Trophy, the big seniors’ competition in July, was won by David Shannon, with 37 points. Further congratulations are due to David for recently equalling his age in a medal round. We won’t give away his age but he shot a 76. The San Giovanni Trophy was appropriately won by Giovanna Buosi, with an impressive 41 points.
If you’re available, please try to play in the ‘midweek Major’, the Ben Musk Trophy. This is an 18 hole stableford competition and you can play on any of 8th, 9th or 10th August.
