Captain Keith McDonald walking towards the first tee for the Captain’s Drive-In
On Saturday 16 May, London Scottish Golf Club hosted one of the most anticipated events of the golfing calendar, the annual Captain’s Drive-In, Club Supper and Prize Giving Ceremony.
With the weather cooperating, laughter and plenty of good spirits flowing throughout the day and evening, the event once again proved why it remains such a favourite among members.
Captain’s Drive-In
At 6pm, our new Captain, Keith MacDonald, made his way to the first tee in true London Scottish style, flanked by the unmistakable sound of our bag pipers. Members lined the first fairway, strategically positioning themselves in the hope of catching the Captain’s opening drive. Claiming the ultimate prize: a bottle of whisky. No pressure for the Captain then!
Thankfully, Keith delivered in style, officially launching his year as Captain to a huge round of applause and plenty of cheers from the watching crowd.
Haggis Procession with the bagpipers
Address to a haggis
Following the Drive-In, members gathered in the clubhouse for the much-loved Club Supper. The evening’s feast certainly did not disappoint, beginning with the traditional haggis, followed by a roast with all the trimmings, cheesecake and finishing with a superb cheeseboard that kept plenty of members lingering late into the evening. A huge thank you to Adam and the team!
Before supper began, members enjoyed the traditional Address to a Haggis delivered by the Captain himself, following the ceremonial procession of the haggis led by our pipers. Equal parts theatrical, heartfelt and entertaining, it was another memorable moment in a night full of them.
The evening also celebrated the golfing achievements of members across the past year, with competition and knockout winners finally receiving their well-earned silverware and prizes. For some, it was a proud moment of triumph. For others, it was simply a reminder that there’s always next season!
As always, the atmosphere throughout the evening was fantastic, warm, lively and full of the camaraderie that makes London Scottish Golf Club such a special place to be. Events like these are about far more than golf. They bring members together, celebrate the traditions of the Club and create memories that last long after the final putt has dropped.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped organise the evening and to all the members who made it such a brilliant occasion.
