Royal Wimbledon Match Report

On the 4th November, 10 LSGC members played Royal Wimbledon Golf Club in our annual match. This is played in singles and every match is played to its conclusion in this interesting format - if you are 4 down with 3 to play, there is still the opportunity to win the last few holes and finish 1 down.

Well done to the Captain, Dave Paul; Calum Bavin; Jim Boyes; Les Hodges; Jason Costain; Tommy Tighe; Chris Bunning; Charles Atlee; Jamie McConnachie and Arthur Stoddart for coming out on top with a score of 17-12. The score was 9-12 with two matches to go, but LSGC came in with 5 up and 3 up to seal the victory!

The trophy will be held at Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, in their impressive dining room, so make sure you take a look if you get a chance to visit!

Royal North Devon Match Report

On the 9th September 2022, 17 of our members made the 4 hour journey down to Royal North Devon Golf Club in Westward Ho! to take part in our historic annual fixture as the 2nd and 3rd oldest club in England. This is a two day match with the winning club taking away the trophy, made by Royal North Devon member, Graham Bowden, from a piece of driftwood and a porthole retrieved from ship that had run aground in Bideford Bay!

We travelled down on Friday morning to play our practice round which was slightly damp (understatement of the year) but most of us managed to get round the full 18. Well done to Adam Lamb for winning the practice day with a great score of 37 points in the conditions!

Unfortunately, we are obliged to feed back the results of the match so…. both Saturday and Sunday had 8 fourball better ball matches. Day 1 finished 5.5 - 2.5 to RND with the winning pairings being Adam Lamb & Dave Groom and Mark Proud & Calum Bavin and the halved match coming from John Prigg and Gordon Hay. Suffering from slightly sore heads, day 2 didn’t go as well finishing 7.5 - 0.5 to RND, with John Prigg and Jim Boyes securing the only half - well done to John for being the only unbeaten member of LSGC’s 17-man strong team!

The weekend was fantastic as usual and thank you to RND for being such wonderful hosts. Looking forward to seeing you all again for the return match in May!
