Ladies Section

Those of you who have visited the club recently will have spotted the work that is being done to convert what was Steve's office into a new ladies changing room, with the works being close to completion.

The ladies opened their own nine-hole course on land adjacent to the main links in 1891, and had their own clubhouse at the Thatched Cottage on the common. Among the members was Isette Pearson, who lived in Putney and was a prime mover behind the formation of the Ladies Golf Union in 1893.

If you know of anyone who might be keen to join our ladies section you can speak to Steve Barr, Tommy Tighe or Tim Hanson (or email here).

Many thanks to Tommy Tighe and Primebuild for organising the building work, and to Mark Taylor, Stewart Lundy and Les Hodges for their valuable help.

Surrey County Card Event at Hankley Common

Well done to Steve Gorst who claimed a second place finish in the recent Surrey County Card Event at Hankley Common. These Surrey-wide events attract a large field of golfers from across the county so a runners up spot is an impressive result.

Surrey Golf Union run these events at a number of venues over the course of the year and they are open to anyone with a Surrey County Card (which all LSGC members automatically receive). You can find details of the events - including the last two of the year at St Georges Hill and Walton Heath - on the Surrey Golf Union website: http://www.surreygolf.org/Events/EventEntryForms.aspx
